Dead On Arrival review on Mundo Rock

Dead On Arrival review on Uber Rock

Ahhhhh, I love the smell of cowbell in the morning…………..

What the fuck is going on in Italy at the moment?? Yet another quality slice of sleaze rock for purveyors of dirty, filthy, sex-littered sounds.

Torino’s Hollywood Killerz play it just like we scuzz buckets love it……..with attitude, with cum-soaked lyrics and every bead of sweat dripping into our faded 80’s band t-shirts. Faster Pussycat, Dead Boys, Pretty Boy Floyd, Hanoi Rocks – you name ’em, they’ve heard it and chewed it up to make this disc spew out onto your player at home to remind us what it’s like to not give a fuck about a crystal clear sound, originality and to just sit back and enjoy it.

Black shirts, tattoos, dirty Converse, jet black hair, songs about sex that were probably written down on the back of a fag packet- all boxes ticked and you’ll either love this or won’t give it the time of day and just shrug your shoulders.

It’s an attitude. It’s loud glam punk sleaze and they get it. You should too.

Dead On Arrival review on Veglam

One of the oldest and coolest sleaze rock band from Italy is finally back with a brand new album. Members have come and gone and years have passed but the band kept its spirit and passion for rock’n’roll alive for the enjoyment of us all!

Opening song “700.000” is a bit of a DEMOLITON 23’s tribute (“The Scum Lives On”) in the verses so you can only know where you put your Converse shoes in right from the start!

“Grey Celebrations” is a modern dark sleaze anthem, ‘Our Memories May Be Right” and “Over and Over” are quite catchy glam punk numbers while “Girls R Dead” and its UNDERTONES-like riff intro is a powerful rockin’ hit! HOLLYWOOD KILLERZ sometimes gets close to the MURDERDOLLS or WEDNESDAY 13 as well (“Luxury depression”, “Somewhere Out Of This Mind”) but they can also slow things down with rock ballads like “How (Could I)” or “More Than It Hurts You”.

The whole mood and atmosphere isn’t too far from what a band like BACKYARD BABIES do so let’s hope that “Dead On Arrival” will open new doors to these Motor City KILLERZ. I mean, I’m sure they’re going to kick those doors down! Go and listen to “Lovecrash” and you’ll know what I mean! /Laurent.

Dead On Arrival review on Sleazenation

Another winner in the Street Symphonies Records / Logic(il)logic stable, Hollywood Killerz was promoted as one of Italy’s greatest, with a killer combination of glam, sleaze, punk, hard rock and disco (?)…

Finally, we got our very own copy of Dead On Arrival, wondering if the buzz was worth it.

Opening track “700.000” is a fast-paced punch to the gums that establishes Hollywood Killerz’ quality. It sounds venomous, a bit like what Pretty Boy Floyd would sound like on speed.

Singer Harry sounds like a stripped down Steve Summers, with just a little more sting in the tail of his vocals, which are spit out more than sung. Combined with the no-frills, basic but great musical backing, Hollywood Killerz is a blast from the past.

They continue down this same road with “Grey Celebrations” and “Luxury Depression”, both great songs to get the general feel of the band, with very groove-based vocal lines that give the songs an extra nudge in the good direction.

“Girls R Dead” is a little gem, and most likely my top song of this album. It seems like everyone is going the extra mile to make this a song to remember. The fairytale-like lyrics, drenched in Harry’s raunchy vocals and that same, very effective, musical foundation, put this one in the must-listen section.

Time to slow down you say? “How (Could I)” does just that. After hearing this song, the 80’s nostalgic feel is complete. It might as well be made a few decades ago, this song sounds like it was created by the great pioneers of glam rock down on the Strip. Another one to check for sure!

Hollywood Killerz continues blasting hit after hit at you, all thriving on the same success formula: keep the music rough, keep the vocals rougher, keep the lyrical melody flowing… Good stuff once again, from “Going Down” on, the songs don’t sound that innovative anymore, but this album is just un-put-down-able.

“Somewhere Out Of This Mind”, “Over And Over”, “Lovecrash” and basically the rest of the tracklist, are all songs fit for underground clubs as well as much bigger venues, and affirms my love for Italian dirty rock. So many influences mixed together and given their own twist, Italy is looking like the next promised land for hard music.

Dead On Arrival review on Métal Intégral

La ballade How (Could I), Going Down, Somewhere Out Of This Mind, All Tomorrow’s Parties, Over And Over seront dans le bien, mais sans plus.

Hard Rock US avec esprit Glam (registre post adolescence).
